Althaea (Marshmallow root), Pimpinella (Aniseed), Drosera (the Sundew), and Ipecacuanha act together to help soothe irritated mucous membranes in the throat and chest, by reducing inflammation and relaxing constricted muscles. Plantago (Plantain), Thymus (Thyme) and Marrubium (Horehound) are expectorants, helping to break up and eliminate mucous. Inula (Elecampane) helps relieve chest congestion.
Weleda Cough Elixir is manufactured using traditional herbal methods over three days. The dried herbs are soaked overnight, and then boiled as a decoction. Raw sugar and malt are added to produce a syrup, and upon cooling the homoeopathic liquids are added. After filtering, it is bottled and pasteurised. The raw sugar softens the herbal taste and acts as a preservative.
