Herbal relief of chilblains.

Chilblains are found on fingers, ears, nose and more commonly, toes. They occur after exposure to cold, when the circulation to these areas is insufficient causing numbness. As the area warms up again, congestion causes swelling, redness and pain.

WELEDA Frost Cream stimulates peripheral circulation and brings warmth to the area. It has an anti-inflammatory effect on the associated discomfort and nerve pain, and also helps remove the congestion.

Rationale

Artemisia abrotanum (Southernwood) is used here to stimulate the circulation. The herb has been used traditionally to treat severe inflammation.

Arnica is used here for stimulating the circulation, by improving blood flow. It also has soothing anti-inflammatory properties.

Cochlearia (Horseradish) is a reputed circulatory stimulant.

Calamus (Sweet flag) & Capsicum (Red Pepper: Cayenne) both stimulate warmth and peripheral circulation to extremities eg fingers and toes.

Hypericum (St. John’s Wort) provides pain relief to the nerve endings

Urtica Urens (Nettle) is traditionally used out of the homoeopathic principle for burning, itching pain.

Balsam of Peru is included for its antiseptic and regenerative properties.

Dosage

Apply twice daily, or as directed by your practitioner. For best results cover with a dressing.

Do not use on broken chilblains. Use instead Hypercal Cream.
